This work is about a journey of love, a journey of sacrifice, and a journey of hope. This is about one of America’s oldest ethnic communities, the ChineseAmericans. An American people simultaneously native and foreign, constantly caught in a flux of preserving its cultural heritage while adapting and trying to accept American ideals and culture. It takes courage to leave one’s home and all that they know for a great unknown, with no guarantees, with just the hope and will to provide opportunities to those that we love. These photographs are the journey of an American people through the Golden Mountain (America).
An Rong is a documentary photographer and sensitive artist from New York’s Chinatown. His work explores identity within the Chinese American community, and the evolving social philosophy within, while photographing the transition from immigrant to American.
